The IMB X-Ray Crystallography Facility features three separate instrument set-ups for x-ray diffraction data acquisition. The Elliott Supper Total Reflection Mirror (ESTRM) set-up consists of a rotating anode generator, total-reflection mirrors and a stand-alone image plate. The x-ray source is a 2.2 kW Elliott GX20 rotating anode generator (running at 28 kv and 40 mA) with a copper anode and a 0.2 x 2.0 mm2 x-ray filament (cathode). A set of two long Supper 7616 total reflection mirrors purged in helium gas image the x-ray filament at 6° angle creating a foreshortned (reduced 1/10 on one dimension) 0.2 x 0.2 mm2 point image that is collimated and focussed at a stand-alone image plate. The image plate has an active area of 200 x 250 mm 2 with a 0.050 x 0.050 mm resolution in the fast and slow directions, respectively. The image can be read by a stand-alone reader in five (5) minutes and has two (2) byte depth thus generating a grey scale image of ~20 MB size.
