  Pioneer DVD-R

For archiving (back-up) data at home and retieving pre-archived data from synchrotrons, the XRF has added two Pioneer DVD-R\-RW drives [one in neptune.sb.fsu.edu (Linux) and one in anaconda.sb.fsu.edu (Windows NT)]. These drives are capable of reading and writing all the following media:

DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW (writing),

DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW (reading).

For compatability reasons, XRF recommends the use of General-purpose (as opposed to Authoring) 4.7 GB DVD-R and DVD-RW media from Pioneer Electronics for all archiving purposes both at home and while at synchrotrons. These media have the following Pioneer numbers DVS-RW47B/U (DVD-RW) and DVS-R47A/U (DVD-R).

Notice: DVD+R, DVD+RW, ( note the "+" sign as opposed to "-" sign) and DVD-RAM are NOT compatible with the drive.

Some features of the DVD Writer are:

  • Supports several standard media
  • Backward compatible to CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM
  • 4.7 GB capacity
  • Random-access to data
  • Transfer rate: 8MB/s; access time: 200 ms
  • FireWire and ATAPI interface
  • One drive is portable
  • More Information is avaiable.
