For collecting data directly at synchrotrons and quickly transporting it to home for further processing, the XRF has recently added two Maxtor FireWire drives (aka, IEEE 1394 drive, i-LINK drive).
One drive has 60 GB capacity and formatted with vfat filesystem and anothe has 80 GB with two partitions and can be formatted with either vfat or ext3 .
Each drive has two FireWire ports and an external power supply. These drives are well suited for direct data collection at synchrotrons and for reliable transport due to the fact that it is hot pluggable,
has high transfer rate 400 MB/s, fast speed of 7200 RPM and compact.
Some features of the FW External Drives are:
Hot swappable and pluggable
High capacity (60 and 80 GB)
Filesystem supported both by UNIX and Windows operating systems
Fast transfer rate of 400 Mb/s and access rate (7200 RPM)
Random access to data
Compact and convenient size
Industry standard FireWire port
