Welcome to Somasundaram's [aka Soma] homepage at work! I am the Director of the X-Ray Crystallography Facility at the Kasha Laboratory (Photos), Institute of Molecular Biophysics. My official designation is Research Associate (12 month non-tenured faculty) at Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306-4380. I have been associated with the Facility since its inception and with the Institute & FSU since 1993. In this website you will find information about my work and interests. I am responsible for the day to day operation of the Facility including teaching graduate students, post-docs, and staff how to collect, process and interpret macromolecular x-ray diffraction and scattering data. I maintain and upgrade the hardware and software on XRF Instruments and XRF Computers. I also maintain and update the X-Ray Facility Website: www.sb.fsu.edu/~xray. I serve as a safety officer for Kasha Lab and coordinate safety training for members of the Lab with FSU Safety Office. I am a co-author on several peer-reviewed publications (list). During summer term I work with the Department of Biological Science's out-reach initiative called Young Scholars Program. I frequently accompany students to the SER-CAT beamline in Advanced Photon Source at the Argonne National Lab and National Synchrotron Light Source at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and MacCHESS at Cornell for synchrotron data collection. I am a member of the American Crystallographic Society. Since 2006 I co-maintain the IMB Website.
