Myunggi Yi receives 2008 Dirac-Hellman Award in theoretical physics

04/11/08: Mr. Myunggi Yi, graduate student in Dr. H-X. Zhou's lab has been awarded the 2008 Dirac-Hellman award in theoretical physics for significantly advancing our understanding of biological systems through molecular dynamics simulations. The Dirac-Hellman Award was endowed by Dr. Bruce Hellman in 1997 to reward outstanding work in theoretical physics by FSU researchers. Congrats to Myunggi!

Dr. Michael Blaber work could lead to new treatment for heart disease

03/25/08: Dr. Michael Blaber, Professor of Biomedical Sciences, and member of Molecular Biophysics (MOB) Graduate Program is working with a $264,000 three-year grant from the American Heart Association to develop mutant forms of a human protein that could be used for new treatments of heart diseases. His work has recently been featured in the FSU News section. Congrats to Dr. Blaber!

Dr. Alan G. Marshal selected to recieve 2008 Ralph & Helen Oesper Award

03/18/08: Dr. Alan G. Marshall, Robert O. Lawton Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Director of Ion Cyclotron Program at the MagLab, and member of Molecular Biophysics (MOB) Graduate Program has been selected to receive the 2008 Ralph and Helen Oesper Award from the Cincinnati Section of the American Chemical Society. Dr. Marshall is being recognized for his co-invention and leading technique development of Fourier Transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. Congrats to Dr. Marshall!

Dylan Murray has won Presidential/University Fellowship

03/04/08: Dylan Murray, a first year MOB graduate student has been awarded 2008-09 Presidential/University Fellowship. Congrats to Dylan!

Dr. Hong-Guo Yu has won Basil O'Connor Starter Scholar Research Award

02/28/2008: Dr. Hong-Guo Yu, Assistant Professor of Biological Science and member of Molecular Biophysics graduate program has been awarded a two-year Basil O'Connor Starter Scholar Research Award. The $150,000 grant from March of Dimes will allow his lab to focus on elucidating the molecular mechanism of recombination and chromosome segregation during meiosis. Congrats to Dr. Yu!

Dr. Yanchang Wang has won 4-year American Cancer Society Grant

02/26/2008: Dr. Yanchang Wang, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences and member of Molecular Biophysics graduate program has been awarded a four-year $707,000 grant from the American Cancer Society. The grant will allow his lab to learn how enzyme Cdc14 is involved in the cell deactivation process. Congrats to Dr. Wang!

Dr. Linda Hirst has won 2008 NSF Career Award

02/07/2008: Dr. Linda Hirst, Assistant Professor of Physics and member of Molecular Biophysics graduate program has been awarded 2008 NSF Career Award. The grant totaling $572,000 over five years will allow Hirst and co-workers to investigate the self-assembly of cholesterol and polyunsaturated lipids and their structural effects on cell membrane. Congrats to Linda!

Professor Timothy A Cross awarded $2 Million Grant

01/22/2008: Dr. Timothy A. Cross, the Earl Frieden Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry has been awarded $2 Million National Institutes of Health grant. The grant will make it possible for Dr. Cross and his team to work toward mapping of the proteins at the surface of the bacteria. Congrats to Dr. Cross!
